John Beifuss calls Indie Memphis & The Brooks screening of CHE the museum’s “most significant film offering” since KILLER OF SHEEP in 2007

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Don’t miss Part One of Steven Soderbergh’s acclaimed epic CHE, screening this Sunday at 5 pm @ the Brooks. (Doors and cash bar open at 4 pm.)

On his blog, The Bloodshot Eye, and in Go Memphis, John Beifuss wrote:

Presented in conjunction with Indie Memphis, the booking represents something of a coup for the Brooks, and is certainly the museum’s most significant film offering since ‘Killer of Sheep’ in 2007.”

The Memphis Flyer calls THE POOL better than SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Be sure to pick up today’s issue of the Memphis Flyer for reviews of the THE POOL and CHE, PART 1, which we’re screening with The Brooks this week.

Of Chris Smith’s narrative feature debut, THE POOL (7:30 pm, Thurs.), Greg Akers writes:

Would it be crazy to say that a little indie movie that premiered at Sundance two years ago is better than the sitting Best Picture? Crazy, maybe, but true.”

We agree! THE POOL is, of course, a very different film, but if SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE has juiced your interest in India, its people and culture — or inspired you to explore new independent cinema — we expect to see you tomorrow night at the Brooks…
